This week marks the 3rd of our 5 week Cross Country Season. Many athletes have already met their qualifying times and are now competing within their own teams to become the top 5 or top 7 runners so that they can punch their ticket to the Cross Country Finals on Wednesday, October 15th at the EDC Fairgrounds. Small elementary schools are allotted 5 spots per division while large elementary schools and middle schools get to enter 7 runners per division.
This week’s races are primarily on Wednesday at Buckeye, Miller’s Hill, Sierra Ridge, District Christian, and the EDH CSD hosted by Lakeview. Union Mine will host a meet on Friday.

The flag football regular season will come to a close this week. Team’s are still competing to earn a spot in next week’s playoff tournament at Herbert Green. Semifinal games will be scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, October 6th and 7th. The championship games will be played on Thursday, October 9th, all at Herbert Green.
The Pleasant Grove v. Valley View game on Tuesday will likely determine the top seed in the 8th grade D1 bracket. Before that, Valley View must get past a John Adams team coming off of a win their last time out.
On Monday Camino plays Gold Trail for the top seed in D2 for both 7th and 8th grade.
Miller’s Hill 8th grade has been playing well this season and makes a great case for being included in the D2 playoffs.

In girls Volleyball Markham has extended their lead in both 7th and 8th grade heading into the last week of the regular season. Pleasant Grove and Valley View face off on Tuesday to determine 2nd place in D1 7th grade.
The 7th grade division in D2 has 5 teams within 2 games of the top with the favorites being CHSA, CMP, and Gold Trail. In the 8th grade it’s Pleasant Valley atop the leaderboard, and there are 6 teams within 2 wins. We could see some movement in these D2 standings before the week is over. There are a few makeup games scheduled for early in the week next week for volleyball. Final brackets will be set and announced by Wednesday 10/8 for the tournament scheduled for Saturday 10/11 at EDHS in Placerville.
