Today’s flag football Championships did not disappoint for those that came out to see them.  The Division 1 and Division 2 champions each made spectacular plays to prevail in their pursuit of the banner.

Pleasant Grove jumped out to early first half leads in both the 7th grade and the 8th grade games. Their 7th grade matchup with Markham saw them with a 3 score lead before an interception returned for TD cut the lead to 2 scores and a recovered kickoff seemed to give Markham some life.  PG’s 7th grade team got control again and cruised to a 19-7 victory.

In the 8th grade D1 contest Pleasant Grove scored in the 2nd to take a 6-0 halftime lead over Valley View.  Another score in the 3rd quarter brought the lead to 12-0.  Valley View made some things happen in the second half but a couple of 4th down stops for PG helped them to their second championship of the day.

In Division 2 7th grade regulation wasn’t enough for Sierra Ridge and Camino.  The #1 v #2 seed matchup was spectacular.  Both teams created big plays on offense and defense to head to overtime 6-6.  Camino scored twice in their 4 OT plays and on the second play of overtime for SR, Camino intercepted the ball ending the game.

The Division 1 matchup included Gold Trail and Camino.  Camino almost got to halftime with a 12-0 lead but in the last minute Gold Trail scored on a long TD play making the score 12-6.  Gold Trail tied the game in the 3rd before Camino scored a go-ahead TD in the 4th quarter to make the score 19-12.  Gold Trail finished the game in championship fashion by scoring a late TD and 2 point conversion for a 20-19 win.
